PayPal Goods & Services - Step by Step

For Buyers (Sending Payment)

  1. Open PayPal and click "Send & Request" or "Send Money"
  2. Enter the seller's PayPal email (verify this is correct!)
  3. Enter the exact amount agreed upon with the seller
  4. IMPORTANT: Select "Paying for an item or service" or "Goods & Services"

    ⚠️ Do NOT select "Sending to a friend" or "Friends & Family" - this removes buyer protection!

  5. Add a clear description in the note field:
    "Payment for [description of item/s etc.] as discussed"
  6. Review and send - PayPal will charge the seller a small fee (usually 2.9% + $0.30)

For Sellers (Receiving Payment)

  1. Provide your PayPal email to the buyer (double-check spelling)
  2. Request Goods & Services payment - explain the buyer protection benefits
  3. Wait for payment to arrive - you'll receive an email notification
  4. Verify the payment amount and that it's marked as "Goods & Services"
  5. Ship promptly with tracking once payment is confirmed
  6. Upload tracking information to PayPal for seller protection

  • New account with no history - Recently created profile with no previous transactions
  • Poor communication - Vague responses, grammar errors, or delayed replies
  • Requests personal information - Asks for SSN, bank details, or other sensitive data
  • Ships from overseas - Especially for items claimed to be in the US

Dispute Resolution Process

If You Don't Receive Your Item (Buyer)

  1. Wait for the estimated delivery time to pass
  2. Contact the seller through our messaging system
  3. If no response after 3 business days, open a PayPal dispute
  4. Go to PayPal → Resolution Center → Report a Problem
  5. Select "I didn't receive an item I paid for"
  6. Provide all communication records and evidence
  7. PayPal will investigate and make a decision (usually within 30 days)

If Item Doesn't Match Description (Buyer)

  1. Document the discrepancies with photos
  2. Contact the seller to attempt resolution
  3. If no agreement is reached, open a PayPal dispute
  4. Select "The item I received doesn't match the listing"
  5. Upload comparison photos and evidence
  6. Be prepared to return the item for a full refund

If Buyer Claims False Dispute (Seller)

  1. Respond to the dispute immediately
  2. Provide tracking information showing delivery
  3. Upload photos of the exact item shipped
  4. Include all communication records
